Meet graduate student Sarah Hernandez

I'm a second year graduate student in the Community and Prevention Research program in the department of psychology here at UIC. My main area of interest is the social context of community gardens, particularly race relations. For my Master Thesis, I am interviewing community gardeners at racially diverse gardens in Chicago to understand how they perceive the race relations in their community gardens, with the aim of developing a theory grounded in the gardeners' experiences and perceptions. Additionally, I am a student project leader for the UIC Heritage Garden Internship program.

Meet graduate student Casey Sarapas

Casey Sarapas
I am beginning my fifth year as a student in the clinical psychology program here at UIC, working with Stew Shankman. My primary line of research focuses on how cognitive abilities, such as attention and cognitive control, are related to emotion and emotion regulation, and how alterations in these abilities contribute to mood and anxiety difficulties. I examine these questions using a variety of methods, including psychophysiology, cognitive tasks, and self-report.
